Investment Company Consultant

ACA seeks individuals for consulting engagements in the investment management and mutual fund industry with experience in one or more of the following areas specific to mutual funds: in-house compliance, fund accounting, fund administration, mutual fund transfer agency, and/or custody operations. The line of service for this position would be investment company SEC regulatory consulting. The location would be Boston or New York City. Consultants in this position are responsible for, among other things,

  • planning and executing operational regulatory reviews to evaluate business process and technical controls to support conclusions;
  • understanding and interpreting SEC regulations and determining applicability to client operations; and
  • developing, documenting, and delivering matrix style reports or other methods of reporting of these reviews.

Successful applicants will become part of a team of professionals delivering quality assurance service to a variety of clients, including investment managers, investment companies, hedge fund managers, and third-party service providers.

Qualifications

Interested candidates should have at least three to five years of Registered Investment Company Audit and SAS 70 type related and/or Fund Accounting and Fund Administration experience; five years of in-house compliance experience, with a minimum of three years’ experience with oversight of a mutual fund complex; or a minimum of three years’ experience with a Big 5 public accounting firm on mutual fund audits and/or reviews. Experience in the financial services, investment management, and investment company industries is also required.

Candidates must also have a BA/BS finance or accounting degree from an accredited university business school. CFA/CPA/CISA would be a plus.

In addition, candidates must have

  • strong oral and written communication skills;
  • a commitment to exceptional client service;
  • creative problem-solving ability;
  • intellectual curiosity;
  • the ability to work efficiently, effectively, and independently;
  • the ability to interact with various levels of client and firm management;
  • the flexibility to travel 50 percent of the time annually;
  • a thorough knowledge of investment company transfer agency, fund accounting, and fund administration operations; and
  • proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel with Access DB a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with industry experience. It will include a base salary plus incentive-based commissions and bonuses. ACA also offers an excellent benefits package.
