Online Safety for Children

October 4, 2018 by Steve Blossom, Christine Tetherly-Lewis

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. Each year, ACA Aponix participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Stop.Think.Connect Campaign to further educate our clients and friends on measures they can take to protect their information, family, and business from cyber threats. Our 2018 theme is Online Safety for Children.

In today’s digital age, your children have unprecedented access to the internet, which makes them susceptible to risks such as cyberbullying and identity theft. ACA’s team of cybersecurity professionals has developed the following resources to educate parents and caregivers about the cyber safety best practices they can use at home, school, and wherever children can get online.

Guide: Online Safety Tips for Parents and Caregivers

Our team has compiled their most recommended online safety tips for children ages 3-18 in a convenient, printable guide. The guide also includes additional resources for further reading. Topics include:

  • Implementing content controls, filtering, and monitoring
  • Practicing healthy media habits as a family
  • Teaching stranger and cyberbullying awareness
  • Encouraging social media and texting limits
  • Raising awareness of distracted driving and its dangers
  • Freezing credit reports and implementing other online privacy measures
  • And more
