GIPS® Compliance Notification Form Now Available

Effective January 1, 2015 firms claiming compliance with the GIPS standards must notify CFA Institute of their claim and provide basic information about their firm. This new requirement will allow CFA Institute to best respond to continued requests for information about the adoption of the GIPS standards in different locations around the globe.

Compliant firms have until June 30, 2015 to submit the notification form, which is now available on the GIPS standards website. Once the online registration form is filled out and submitted, a confirmation window will appear. We recommend that firms print or take a screenshot of this confirmation for proper documentation of meeting the notification requirement.

We hope the following Q&As will alleviate any angst firms are feeling about this new requirement.

What information are firms required to provide?
Firms are required to provide only the following information:

  • Name of firm and firm address
  • Firm contact information
  • If the firm has a website, the firm's website address
  • If the firm has been verified within the past 24 months

Firms must also confirm that they claim compliance with the GIPS standards, and acknowledge their responsibility to comply with any future changes to the GIPS standards.

The notification form also contains optional requests for information such as a firm’s assets and the asset classes it manages. Only questions marked with a small red asterisk (*) must be answered.

What information will be included on the GIPS standards website?
Only the firm’s name, and a link to the firm’s website, if provided, will be included on the GIPS standards website. The firm’s verification status will not appear.

Can a firm choose to not have the firm’s name included on the GIPS standards website?
Yes, a firm may choose to not have the firm’s name listed on the GIPS standards website.

What is the annual deadline for completing the notification form?
Firms must submit the form by June 30 of each year.
